Adventures of MissFortune
Revenge of the Serenade

Part I

It’s a great day for Highburgh! Come down to the New Deli Deli to meet the one and only Highburgh Heroes ! One day only!

Fresh off their success in the Forever Eclipse, the Highburgh Heroes are taking an opportunity to help out Mr. Deli, of New Deli Deli by signing autographs and drawing a crowd to his store. But evil is afoot! The dastardly accountant John Smith has decided to rob New Deli Deli, on Hero’s Day! Our intrepid heroes were able to thwart the efforts of John Smith, and meet a new hero, Brimstone.

John Smith was not what he appeared to be, all across Highburgh, average day citizens are committing acts of robbery. All day our heroes fought to stop this mysterious crime wave.
That night our heroes received the full extent of the crime wave.
“In grim news today, a serious crime wave had hit Highburgh. Over 10,000 individual robberies were performed across the city. Detective Debrowski of the Highburgh PD had this to say.” said the newscaster.
“Yeah we’re on it!” said Debrowski.

Over the next couple of days the Highburgh Heroes juggled between discovering the source of the mysterious crime wave while battling an ever-growing threat to the city. First, it was ordinary citizens, then ninjas, now demonic cultists. As fire, brimstone, and ninja stars fly all around our heroes, how will they track down and put a stop to the nefarious Serenade?!?

Forever Eclipse

With the report of a ship sinking in the Highburgh harbor, the Highburgh Heroes spring into action to save lives. While rescuing the crew trapped on the ship, the heroes note that the crippling of the ship appeared to be no accident. Information gleaned on the scene and with investigation afterwards points to an “inside job” by some of the crew that were on the ship but are now unaccounted for. However, efforts to dig up further details are hampered by Detective Debrowski of the Highburgh PD, an outspoken critic of super hero interference in police affairs. Following up through other channels, such as reporter Rachel Dunmore the heroes learn that some ancient Egyptian relics were stolen from the ship, including an incredibly ancient mummy that was recently discovered and was bound for Champion City (via Highburgh) for further study.

During this time, Sentinel did some checking into the troubling phenomenon of Paladin’s unexplained, temporary loss of powers, observed last adventure. During the course of this investigation, Sentinel met the son of a military researcher who has some yet unknown connection to Energy X the substance that gave Paladin his powers.

This line of inquiry is cut short by the report of a break-in at the Highburgh Museum of Natural History. While the Highburgh PD secure the perimeter and call in reinforcements, the heroes (as they do) charge boldly into the building. They find two museum security guards unusually and brutally killed by unknown means. Finally, in the Egyptology section of the museum, they encounter some unknown individuals in one of the offices. While one of the assailants is captured, one manages to escape, and a third commits suicide to prevent capture. When the HPD move in, they seize the one captive and refuse to let the heroes question him, but Sid does discover the body of a third museum guard, apparently scared to death, who has written an unknown Egyptian symbol in blood on the wall.

The natural person to follow up on the symbol is Professor Harvey Walters, head of Egyptology at the museum and a professor at the local Highburgh College. Sid and Slider [Nierou]’s attempt at disguise and subtlety fails miserably, and causes the Professor to flee. While in the college parking lot, a group of unidentified individuals attempt to kidnap him, and the heroes spring into action. They manage to rescue the professor, and make two important discoveries in the process. First, the attackers appear to be of the same group that broke into the museum, and second, that one of the attackers had supernatural powers. Foolishly leaving the assailants in the hands of College Campus Security, the group takes Professor Walters (blindfolded) back to the safety of their base (later learning that the attackers easily escaped the under-powered Campus Security).

Professor Walters identifies the symbol as the name of the god Apep – an ancient Egyptian god of darkness, and chaos, the mortal enemy of Ra the sun god. Apep was a highly feared and powerful enemy of all good creatures, as he constantly fought to destroy the sun and plunge the world into eternal darkness. Professor Walters surmises that the mummy previously stolen has been resurrected as some sort of avatar of Apep. The knowledge of how to defeat this being was written in the ancient Book of Overthrowing Apep which Professor Walters has a copy of in his office at the college. Springing into action, the group heads back to the college to retrieve the book.

Rushing in heedlessly, the group blunders into an ambush by the cult of Apep who has arrived ahead of them. Professor Walters is critically wounded, but is saved by the efforts of Sid. Meanwhile, Paladin, and Sentinel battle the cultists and magicians of Apep, along with the shadow serpents summoned to aid them. Just as Paladin rushes in to grab the book, the avatar of Apep appears out of the darkness. One look at his frightening visage sends Sentinel and Paladin fleeing in mortal terror, but fortunately with the book.

In a vision, Slider sees the plan of Apep and his cult to enact a ritual to cause an eternal eclipse, as well as the location of the ritual. Professor Walters assures the group that the spells contained in the book can be used to defeat the ritual, if they can get him to the site and protect him. Heading for a final showdown on the rooftop of a skyscraper, the group does battle with Apep and his cult. While protecting the professor to enact the ritual, the cultists, magicians, and giant animated statues are smashed. Apep’s ritual is defeated, and he retreats into the shadows.

Pep Rally
Mastermind's Boredom Games

The local sports team, the Highburgh Highlanders, will be having an exhibition game with Champion city. A large crowd is filling the field of the Highburgh Multi-Plex enjoying the festivities. Suddenly the light lights go out, as emergency power switches on mask men can be seen carrying away the team mascot. As fans gasp at the sceptical the jumbo Tron springs to life revealing a blurred image of man speaking with a distorted voice.
After 10 minutes a toy helicopter flies in and drops a package off on the stage. Inside are wrist bands with a blank screen. Once put on they are difficult to remove but a screen appears with an arrow pointing towards the warehouse district.
The warehouse is labeled “the games room”. There is a locked door with some rules writing on it: , no jumping ducking or running, be respectful of other players, no cheating, and most of all (have fun is stroked out) and in marker it has been replaced with “prepare to die.”
The fist room is littered with junk, most of it looks like it would be from a vending machine (small toys and such) but there are also several damaged pieces from heavy equipment and vehicles. In the middle of the room there is large rectangle suspended from the ceiling with a small bullseye darting around it. There is a sign the says you need 50 points (outer ring is worth 5, middle ring is 15 and center is worth 50). After scoring a bullseye an elevator erupts from the center of the room.
Room 1:
The elevator descends into a large room, the lights flicker to life revealing a party has been setup. Large stuffed animals adorn the festivities.
Room 2:
A mostly empty room setup with speakers and a light show.
Room 3:
Two pedestals one with a golden key and guarded by a stone gargoyle. The other almost empty except for a small wooden stick. At the back of the room large reinforced doors with a golden lock.
Room 4:
Out of order sign hangs in this barren room

The Adventures of Ms Fortune

The Scout Master

The Scout Master has a wide network of Scout Minions that operate throughout Champion City, Annex City, and Highbourgh. The goals of the Scout Master is to establish a criminal network that will “Be Prepared”.

Peter Goodman was a fitness trainer of Above Average Man, before a freak accident infused him with a mixture of protein powers, multivitamins, and chemical X. After which his psyche was twisted into the persona, Crosstrainer. Seeing Globogym as the source of his accident, and a plague on good hard working meat-heads everywhere, Crosstrainer is embarking on a personal crusade to destroy the evil corporation, and make everyone Crosstrained.
Boo Yeah!

A showman and psychic mastermind, Serenade has spent years infiltrating various theatre and opera shows to carry out his nefarious acts. Serenade uses his highly focused psychic powers to entrance crowds into high sense of euphoria and generosity. He then has the crowd leave his performances (minus their valuables) feeling they have just seen the greatest performance of their life. If it wasn’t for Sentinel, Serenade would have stolen Highbourgh’s wealthiest patrons most prised possessions during the inaugural performance of the Highbourgh Opera House.

Axis of Evil

A thunderstorm rages over Pinewood Penitentiary. On an isolated wing three shadowy figures stare at each outer, the Scout Master (whom has been operating his vast network of minions from Pinewood all along), Peter Goodman, the Crosstrainer, and Serenade, still cursing the bright red welt he received from Sentinal. “It would appear that Ms Fortune’s heroes have foiled us all, what ever should we do about them?”

A new shadowy figure walks down the hallway. “We are the Axis of Evil gentlemen, what do you think we are going to do?”

Thunder booms through the hallways of Pinewood Penitentiary as the storm rages outside.

To be continued…

The Mad Inventor Recap

After breaking up a bank robbery by a gang with Halloween masks (with only slight collateral damage), Highburgh’s Heroes start to turn their attention to a string of robberies going on in the city. Managing to catch one in progress, the Heroes are surprised to find that the perpetrators are robots.

With evidence in hand they begin to investigate the origin of the robots. Taking parts to an expert at the college they learn a few things. First, the robots are constructed from a collection of haphazard parts, yet show a sublime genius to their design. Secondly, the majority of the parts come from the company Dynamic Design and Manufacturing. A visit to the HQ of the company in Highburgh gets the heroes a cold visit from a VP and the head of security. The men inform the heroes that they have been the target of thefts (not all of them reported) for quite some time. After turning over evidence, the heroes are promptly shown the door.

With the evidence, the heroes manage to establish a pattern to the robberies, and stake out probable targets. This leads to them catching another robbery in progress. This time, however, they are met with a small group of more hulking robots built for combat. A desperate fight ensues with the heroes managing to foil the robbery, but not any closer to discovering their origin.

While other heroes do their own investigation, Slider sits down for a vision. His vivid dream shows an unknown man stomping all over a miniature Highburgh, causing countless deaths and widespread destruction. Passing the description to Sentinel’s reporter friend, Rachel Dunmore, turns up that this man is Arthur Davidson, a former employee and senior researcher at Dynamic Design and Manufacturing. A quick visit to his house reveals that he is not there, but does reveal evidence pointing to a new location in the industrial district.

Checking out the location shows a hidden factory producing more robots, but guarded by a legion of them. When the heroes attempt to sneak in to shut down the factory, they are discovered. As Davidson rants about his mission of vengeance, he activates his ultimate weapon: a 100 ft tall robotic giant, with him piloting it. The monstrosity then heads off in the direction of the wealthy neighbourhood, The Hill, but the path takes it directly through downtown.

While Paladin and Slider heroically race to save innocent civilian lives, Sentinel and Sid climb to the top of the robot to look for a way to deactivate it. After fighting off some of its defense systems, they manage to find a hatch that leads them into the interior of the robot. Using his expertise in technology and weapons provided by Sentinel, Sid find a critical power junction inside the robot, plants explosives, and teleports away. As the robot starts to topple, Sentinel and Slider leap to safety, while Paladin clears the last of the civilians out of the robot’s path (including his mother).

After toppling the robot, the mad inventor Arthur Davidson is captured, and the Highburgh Heroes are acknowledged as their namesake by the crowd.
